Card Grading Standards
How We Grade Cards at KAMEX
At KAMEX, our primary standard is Near Mint (NM) or better. Every card is individually assessed against the TCGPlayer grading scale before being listed. For select vintage sets, we may offer Lightly Played (LP) cards where NM copies are scarce. These are always clearly labeled.
Below is the full TCGPlayer grading scale for reference.
Near Mint (NM)
Cards in Near Mint condition show no wear from play or handling. Corners are sharp and clean. Edges show no fraying or chipping. The surface is free of scratches, scuffs, or marks. For foil cards, the foil surface must be free of scratches. In practice, many of our cards come directly from sealed packs and may be in pristine condition. We list conservatively to ensure every customer receives at least what is described, and often better.
Lightly Played (LP)
Cards in Lightly Played condition may have minor edge wear, slight corner wear, or very light surface scuffs visible on close inspection. Centering may be slightly off but remains within acceptable range. The card is still highly playable and collectible. For certain vintage sets where NM copies are rare or unavailable, KAMEX offers LP cards as a clearly labeled alternative. Every LP card is individually reviewed and described before listing.
Moderately Played (MP)
Cards in Moderately Played condition show more noticeable wear including moderate edge wear, corner wear, creasing, or surface scratches. Centering may be noticeably off. The card is still structurally intact and fully playable. Not sold at KAMEX.
Heavily Played (HP)
Cards in Heavily Played condition show significant wear throughout. Heavy creasing, major edge damage, deep scratches, or fading may be present. The card may have difficulty shuffling cleanly. Not sold at KAMEX.
Damaged (D)
Cards in Damaged condition have severe issues that affect structural integrity. This includes tears, holes, water damage, writing, or extreme warping. Not sold at KAMEX.
Our Standard, Simply Put
The vast majority of cards at KAMEX are Near Mint or better. Where LP cards are available, they are vintage exceptions. Always clearly labeled, individually reviewed, and priced.
